State of Local Giving: Trends, Data & Impact

Program Description
Get a clear-eyed look at how philanthropy is shifting, nationally and in our own backyard, and consider how you can maximize your impact through strategic, community-connected giving. This session shares key data and trends in local giving and explores how philanthropists are responding in ways that make immediate and lasting impact.

Chelsea Fahr is the Senior Director of Philanthropy at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, where she helps donors and fundholders achieve their philanthropic goals with care and impact. She joined the Foundation team in 2017. A UC Davis alumna, Chelsea has worked in Sacramento’s nonprofit sector for over a decade, including roles at the American Cancer Society and American Red Cross. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), she currently serves as President of the Planned Giving Forum of Greater Sacramento and was named one of Sacramento Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 in 2023.

Monica Haulman is the Associate Director of Programs at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, where she leads learning and evaluation efforts and supports nonprofit capacity-building and community impact initiatives. Since joining the Foundation in 2018, Monica has led Big Day of Giving, the region’s annual giving day and nonprofit training program, and has helped grow national collaboratives to strengthen similar events across the country. Previously, Monica worked in international human rights. She holds both a Master of Public Health and a B.A. in Political Science from UC Berkeley and serves on the board of Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center.
