Getting in the Door: Data-Driven Outreach for Planned Giving Portfolios

Building donor relationships starts with getting in the door—but how do we do that consistently without wasting time or overwhelming prospects? Drawing on nearly a decade of outreach data, this session will share what works when it comes to timing, frequency, and methods of contact. We’ll turn those findings into practical, planned giving–specific strategies that build long-term donor relationships and support smarter portfolio management.

Becky Richards is the Assistant Director of Portfolio Strategy at UC Davis, where she began as a research associate in 2018. She currently supports development officers across campus, with a focus on those in Planned Giving, the School of Veterinary Medicine, and the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Previously, Becky held roles as Donor and Events Coordinator at the Maui Humane Society and as Donor Relations and Stewardship Officer at Florida International University. She holds a J.D. from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and a B.A. in Journalism from Western Connecticut State University.
