About the Program

Join PGFGS for “Six Ways to Give: Life Insurance as a Charitable Giving Vehicle,” presented by Tom Ligare, CLU®, CAP®, Founder and Strategic Advisor at Nonprofit Professional Services. This session explores six giving strategies that incorporate life insurance to help donors balance their philanthropic goals with family and retirement needs. Through donor case studies and diagrams, participants will learn how each strategy works, recognize when it may fit a donor’s circumstances, and assess considerations for gift acceptance.

 Meet Our Presenter

Tom Ligare, CLU®, CAP®

Tom Ligare, is a designer of charitable gift plans who works with donors of every size and type, and with the nonprofits they support. Tom holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designations. In 27 years of practice, he has built his work on one observation: a donor's largest assets are rarely liquid. That means the most meaningful gifts are usually designed, not written as a check.

Along the way, Tom noticed something else. Many donors would rather design a major gift with a neutral party, someone who doesn't represent the receiving charity. That insight shaped Nonprofit Professional Services, the national practice he founded in Carpinteria. Tom works alongside CPAs and estate attorneys to structure gifts that serve the donor, the family and the charity at the same time.

He also knows the other side of the table. Tom is Executive Director of the Ernest Brooks Foundation and has served as board chair and president of several nonprofits. He is a member of Charitable Gift Planners, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and he is active in the Rotary Club of Carpinteria.

Tom says he measures a good day by the dollar value of the gift. During his presentation, he'll walk us through six ways to give.
